The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Professor Francis Aba Uba, has called on staff to demonstrate renewed commitment to duty following the resolution of longstanding salary and welfare challenges at the institution. Speaking at an interactive staff meeting held on the 26th January, 2026 at the Otada Campus, Prof. Uba emphasized the need for punctuality, discipline, and security consciousness as the university positions itself for national recognition. The Vice-Chancellor issued a stern warning against truancy and absenteeism, reminding staff that such offenses attracts dire consequences under the institution's conditions of service. "Please be at your duty post. When you can't be around, take permission," he urged. Prof. Uba announced that the university has introduced SERVICOM, a federal government initiative responsible for service delivery, which will conduct unannounced checks on staff attendance. He also mandated the compulsory wearing of identity cards during office hours as part of enhanced security protocols. In a move to boost morale and productivity, the management unveiled plans to institute annual awards for the best worker, most well-behaved staff member, and best-dressed employee, as well as recognition for the neatest department. Prof. Uba described the prizes as "mouthwatering," aimed at fostering excellence across the institution. Addressing concerns about the university's flagship Medicine and Surgery program, Prof. Uba announced that MBBS students currently at home would be recalled on February 9, 2026. He expressed confidence that the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) would conduct an accreditation visit in the first quarter of the year. Prof. Uba acknowledged the financial challenges facing parents and announced that the university would offer installment payment options for school fees to ensure accessibility. The Vice-Chancellor also reminded staff that the screening exercise conducted in late 2025 remained under review, with results expected to be published soon. He stated that the process will be honest and transparent, adding that the Governing Council had vowed to implement recommendations fully. In closing, Prof. Uba encouraged staff to invest in land, noting that universities typically drive development in their host communities. Other members of management including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Friday Godwin Okibe, the Registrar, Mr. Michael Ogiji, and the Bursar, Chief Dr. Paul Akpa, re-emphasized what the Vice-Chancellor had said, calling for collective commitment to the university's transformation agenda.
