Neuroscience Society of Nigeria, North Central (NSNNC)

The North Central region of Nigeria comprises of the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) and six states namely: Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nassarawa, Niger and Plateau. Therefore, in recognition of the critical need for collaboration and knowledge sharing in neuroscience, the FNRG is actively engaged in establishing the Neuroscience Society of Nigeria, North Central (NSNNC) with its headquarter hosted by the FNRG and located in FUHSO.

At present, the NSNNC has member neuroscientists including postgraduate students and faculty members from universities located in other states outside Benue State such as Federal University Lafiya, Nasarawa State; Bingham University, Nasarawa State; Plateau State University, Plateau State; Newgate University, Niger State; Kogi State University, Kogi State, University of Ilorin, Kwara State and the Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja. These neuroscientists are leading groups of neuroscientists in their respective universities. The membership list of the NSNNC is expected to reach a minimum of 200 within one year of its formation.

The NSNNC aims to promote cooperative research efforts among researchers in various Universities and Colleges of Health Sciences in the North Central region of Nigeria, thereby driving innovation and enhancing the quality of neuroscientific research and mentorship.

Mission

FNRG and NSNNC seek to address the growing burden of brain related disorders in Nigeria, across Africa and beyond. The society will bring together expertise from multiple disciplines across North Central Nigeria, creating a robust research environment that not only contributes to academic knowledge but also translates findings into practical applications that improve brain health outcomes.

Mentorship

Additionally, NSNNC will also foster mentor-mentee relationship in academia, providing an enabling environment for emerging neuroscience researchers to thrive. The NSNNC will contribute significantly to the field of neuroscience, benefiting communities in Nigeria and beyond.
